Allow myself to introduce myself.....
It took me a little while to get the courage, but I finally decided to take a leap of faith and officially script what soon will be known in the annals of history as Noam Dorros's first ever blog. Noam Dorros you say? Who's Noam Dorros? I'm Noam Dorros! I was born amid a blustery snow storm in Wisconsin in March of 1979. I am a Pisces (even though I have no real idea what that means), a lover of film, and a senior programmer for the Jackson Hole Film Festival who is part of the tremendous programming team that is no doubt bringing you the best film festival line-up of 2008! My associates have all decided to give you a brief history of their career paths and how they got to this point, which is both outstanding and full of purpose. I, on the other hand, have decided to go another route....a route of more personal interests and opinions. Why you may ask? Why not?! I have officially just completed the first year of my MBA program and have spent the last eight months regurgitating various forms of my resume to professors and business recruiters. As fun as that sounds, I choose not to do the same here. Just take my word for it when I say that I have both education and experience in the film industry. So let's move on shall we? So what is it that makes up Noam Dorros? What makes this kid tick? Too much to write here, but I'd like to give you all a little taste. Nothing beats a good steak in my opinion. Any cut, any style....it doesn't matter to me. And don't be afraid to throw a little A-1 on that bad boy. I know, I know....all the snooty foodies will say you are ruining the true essence of the steak. I say hogwash! A-1 tastes good, it was created for a reason. It's nature candy.... take advantage my friends, take advantage. Pair that steak with a Stella (on tap and in a pint glass) and you're off to a solid start. Now, if you so happen to be at a restaurant enjoying this tasty meal and there is a television screen in the upper corner of the bar that just so happens to be showing a Green Bay Packer game, you're in heaven. And then, of course, after you take that last bite of steak and finish that last sip of beer, you decide to order a slice of apple pie (a la mode), well now you're just near perfection. Just make sure to have a few extra quarters in you're pocket for a few rounds of pool after you celebrate that Packer victory. Now the real question is, how do you finish off such an outstanding evening? By popping in a movie around 1am. Which film you ask? Good question. The easy answer would be that it depends on your mood, which we all know it clearly does. But, let's say you're still on a high from a great evening of food, beer, a Packer's victory, and few games of nine ball and you are really up for anything. You're best bet: Cool Hand Luke. It's guaranteed satisfaction every time you watch it. If that doesn't tickle your fancy or it is out of stock in you're library of home DVDs, reach for The Goonies. If you can't appreciate this film for what it is, you're opinion on all films are irrelevant to me. It's hilarious and will not doubt make you smile when you watch it, can't ask for much more than that. Now, if a copy of The Goonies or Cool Hand Luke isn't available, my first thought is that it's time to revamp your DVD collection. But, if all else fails, you wouldn't go wrong with any of the following: True Romance, A Clockwork Orange, Seven, or Bottle Rocket. Obviously I am not going to let all the cats out of the bag in my first ever blog entry, but hopefully at least one of these recommendations satisfies your 1am itch for a good flick. Stay tuned for next week's entry which shall include the best horror film ever created (I am a horror junkie), the reason fruit-roll ups will always be fully stocked in my pantry until the day I die, and why Jackson Hole is quite possibly the greatest place on the face of the earth.
