While taking a tour of the Center for the Arts the La Barge 5th Grade came upon some of the JHFF staff as we began to determine our lighting options and step & repeat location for the 2008 Jackson Hole Film Festival. We needed "stand-ins" and trust me, this entire 5th grade was ready for their close up! » Continue reading "La Barge 5th Grade Elementary Class Helps JHFF Staff"MovieHatch.com & Jackson Hole Film Festival Announce ONLINE 2 ONSCREEN Short Film Competition Winners

Voting by the general public closed on May 15, 2008 and the top five in each category were screened by the Jackson Hole Film Festival programming team and Moviehatch.com. And the winners are…. No, I'm not talking about the films starring Nicholas Cage. I'm talking about our National Parks. If you have ever had the opportunity to visit any of them, you will understand how awe-inspiring this country can really be. The range of beauty the landscape holds is simply spectacular. » Continue reading "National Treasure"Will BIG BROWN take the TRIPLE CROWN?
It's horse country here in Jackson, so of course many JHFF staffers gathered around televisions in their homes, at bars and even their computers to witness BIG BROWN gallop across the finish line and win the Preakness Stakes with ease just moments ago. » Continue reading "Will BIG BROWN take the TRIPLE CROWN?"Tihgah Tihgah Woods Ya'll!!!!
I always say that if I could come back as anybody after I die, it would either be as Tiger Woods or James Bond. Considering James Bond is technically a fictitious character, I think the odds favor me as the next Tiger Woods. But let's face it, even that is a bit of a stretch. But like my man Djay always say....everybody gotta have a dream! (Yep, yet another fictitious character....I really need to get out more. And for those of you who do not know to whom I refer, go ahead and switch to a different website now - try perezhilton.com, I hear it's the cats meow). At any rate, How much does it suck to be hungry? I mean, try doing ANYTHING when you super hungry - it's nearly impossible. The worst thing you can do when you're hungry? Go to the grocery store. No joke, you will end up buying anything and everything. It's absurd. You know what else is difficult to do when your hungry? Watch a movie. It's tough to concentrate and all you can think about is the hundreds of different types of foods you wish you had in front of you at that very moment. I am here to help all of you avoid any hunger issues during this year's film festival. So, without further or do, here are the top five places you need to go while in Jackson Hole to avoid those nasty hunger pains: (1) Billy's Burgers. The biggest, juiciest, greasiest, tastiest burgers out there. They are brilliant, they are affordable, and they are a staple of any Jackson Hole Diet. (2) E.Leaven. It has an amazing menu, everything you order is guaranteed to be delicious, and the portions will fill you up for weeks. I recommend the Chicken Salad sandwich - delicious. (3) Rendezvous Bistro. It's a little more upscale, but worth every penny. The menu is always being updated and the food never lets you down. Try the mussels and the oyster shooters when in season. (4) Bubba's. It's deliciously messy barbeque located just outside the town square in Jackson. Try the ribs, you'll thank me for it later. (5) Manhattan Sub Shop. Looking for a traditional hoagie? This is your joint. The Italian is my 'go to', but rumor has it that the Philly Cheese Steak is pretty tasty. So there you have it. So when you're waiting in line buying your festival passes and tickets and that little voice from you're stomach starts telling you that it's time to feed the beast, take my advice and try some grub from one of these fine establishments! On a side note, everyone remember to get out there and vote for you favorite short film on moviehatch.com! It's quick, it's easy, and there are some really creative and terrific films in contention. Just go to moviehatch.com or check out our website for further information (www.jacksonholefilmfestival.org, under the 'Shorts' section). Until next time.... I Got Nuthin' -- So Here's A Really Miniscule Quiz

I grew up on the East Coast. I lived in Rochester, NY for five years while attending college. This week long funk of May Gray here in LA should not be an issue, but I'm feeling a little under the weather. It makes me want to curl up in a blanket and watch a movie or three, like I did this weekend. Here's the recap: » Continue reading "May Gray"Allow myself to introduce myself.....
It took me a little while to get the courage, but I finally decided to take a leap of faith and officially script what soon will be known in the annals of history as Noam Dorros's first ever blog. Noam Dorros you say? Who's Noam Dorros? I'm Noam Dorros! I was born amid a blustery snow storm in Wisconsin in March of 1979. I am a Pisces (even though I have no real idea what that means), a lover of film, and a senior programmer for the Jackson Hole Film Festival who is part of the tremendous programming team that is no doubt bringing you the best film festival line-up of 2008! My associates have all decided to give you a brief history of their career paths and how they got to this point, which is both outstanding and full of purpose. I, on the other hand, have decided to go another route....a route of more personal interests and opinions. Why you may ask? Why not?! I have officially just completed the first year of my MBA program and have spent the last eight months regurgitating various forms of my resume to professors and business recruiters. As fun as that sounds, I choose not to do the same here. Just take my word for it when I say that I have both education and experience in the film industry. So let's move on shall we? So what is it that makes up Noam Dorros? What makes this kid tick? Too much to write here, but I'd like to give you all a little taste. Nothing beats a good steak in my opinion. Any cut, any style....it doesn't matter to me. And don't be afraid to throw a little A-1 on that bad boy. I know, I know....all the snooty foodies will say you are ruining the true essence of the steak. I say hogwash! A-1 tastes good, it was created for a reason. It's nature candy.... take advantage my friends, take advantage. Pair that steak with a Stella (on tap and in a pint glass) and you're off to a solid start. Now, if you so happen to be at a restaurant enjoying this tasty meal and there is a television screen in the upper corner of the bar that just so happens to be showing a Green Bay Packer game, you're in heaven. And then, of course, after you take that last bite of steak and finish that last sip of beer, you decide to order a slice of apple pie (a la mode), well now you're just near perfection. Just make sure to have a few extra quarters in you're pocket for a few rounds of pool after you celebrate that Packer victory. Now the real question is, how do you finish off such an outstanding evening? By popping in a movie around 1am. Which film you ask? Good question. The easy answer would be that it depends on your mood, which we all know it clearly does. But, let's say you're still on a high from a great evening of food, beer, a Packer's victory, and few games of nine ball and you are really up for anything. You're best bet: Cool Hand Luke. It's guaranteed satisfaction every time you watch it. If that doesn't tickle your fancy or it is out of stock in you're library of home DVDs, reach for The Goonies. If you can't appreciate this film for what it is, you're opinion on all films are irrelevant to me. It's hilarious and will not doubt make you smile when you watch it, can't ask for much more than that. Now, if a copy of The Goonies or Cool Hand Luke isn't available, my first thought is that it's time to revamp your DVD collection. But, if all else fails, you wouldn't go wrong with any of the following: True Romance, A Clockwork Orange, Seven, or Bottle Rocket. Obviously I am not going to let all the cats out of the bag in my first ever blog entry, but hopefully at least one of these recommendations satisfies your 1am itch for a good flick. Stay tuned for next week's entry which shall include the best horror film ever created (I am a horror junkie), the reason fruit-roll ups will always be fully stocked in my pantry until the day I die, and why Jackson Hole is quite possibly the greatest place on the face of the earth. Back In Jackson, Ready For Action!
We arrived in Jackson last night after a lovely drive through California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Today we showed up at the office and jumped into the whirling Dervish that is the Jackson Hole Film Festival office right now; it's four weeks away and it is getting pretty exciting around here! » Continue reading "Back In Jackson, Ready For Action!"Wyoming Or Bust….
Cevin & I escaped the call of the craps tables (or I should say – I escaped the call of the craps tables!) in Las Vegas and we made it all the way to Nephi, Utah. » Continue reading "Wyoming Or Bust…."On The Road Again….
From San Sebastian to Park City to Los Angeles to Berlin and of course, Jackson Hole, ACTION! JACKSON has collectively scouring the global watching countless films. We've spent many a day and night sitting in theatres as well as our own living rooms watching submissions and truly feel we have selected the very best for this year’s festival. Cevin & I are currently on the road heading to Jackson and are scheduled to be in the office on Wednesday. Back In The Saddle Again
No, I am not referring to one of my favorite Aerosmith songs, but my return to life as Cevin Cathell, Program Director, Jackson Hole Film Festival. By the way, thank you to one of the JHFF programmers, Diane Becker, for filling in for me last Wednesday while I was in NC looking after a three-year-old niece, while her sister was being born. And of course, thanks to indieWIRE for hosting the Jackson Hole Film Festival Blog! » Continue reading "Back In The Saddle Again"34 Days & Counting...
Hello all! Melanie Miller here, Artistic Director of the Jackson Hole Film Festival. JACKSON includes: Melanie Miller – Artistic Director, Cevin Cathell - Program Director, Noam Dorros – Sr. Programmer, Diane Becker – Programmer & Jason A. White – Programmer. A big thanks to indieWIRE for making this blog possible and for constantly providing me, as well as you, with all things independent cinema and more! » Continue reading "34 Days & Counting..."A Sidenote From Cevin Cathell
Since there are five of us on the programming staff, we thought it would be a good idea as we get the blog up and running to each participate one day a week. This week, Cevin Cathell, our Programming Director, is unable to wax poetic about all that is independent film. She just became an aunt again and went to visit her brother's family and meet the new addition. Congratulations, Cevin! On a separate note, how great is it that in Jackson Hole it is considered fashionable - and appropriate - to wear those cowboy boots that have been gathering dust in your closet. Fun At The Fest
Hey Folks, I'm Jason White, one of the five fab (or, as history books, periodicals, brochures and pamphlets will, no doubt refer to us in the future, Fab Five) programmers of the 2008 Jackson Hole Film Festival. Through the good graces of indieWIRE -- your source for all film information independent and otherwise -- we'll be presenting you a daily blog which will, we hope, amuse, delight, and allure you into participating in this year's fest from June 5-9. If you're at all familiar with Jackson Hole, Wyoming, however, you won't need enticing. I can only give you my account of the fun I had at last year's fest. Welcome to Action! Jackson
Hi Everyone, my name is Diane Becker and I'm one of the programmers here at the Jackson Hole Film Festival. On behalf of the programming staff, I want to welcome you to our blog! We are thrilled to be here and a big thanks to everyone at indieWIRE for getting us up and running. I was a member of the indieWIRE tribe many moons ago when I lived in New York and I can't think of a better home for us. » Continue reading "Welcome to Action! Jackson" |
