Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

David Silverman developing a Live Action/CG "Pink Panther" feature for MGM

MGM is developing a new take on the Pink Panther franchise. This time the plan is star the Panther himself in a hybrid live action/animation movie (the Panther himself would be animated via CGI). The director winning the job is David Silverman (Monsters Inc., The Simpsons Movie) - and that alone is reason to be excited about this latest effort.

Attached to "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" in theaters, DreamWorks' short "Almost Home" is a prologue to the studio's upcoming holiday feature - "Home". If the goal was to familiarize audiences with the lead characters, it would appear their hard work has paid off.

During a time when most studios were promoting their films with coffee table art books, BlueSky was rather quiet. Not until now did Rio, released in 2011, get "The Art of" treatment. Author Tara Bennett has packaged material from that film along with an advance look at Rio 2, and the result is a sumptuous, if crowded, compendium.

I just had a look at this new anime-styled Marvel animation DVD/bluray release, Avengers Confidential: Black Widow And Punisher - and it's pretty damn good. Actually, the animation is more than "anime-styled" - it IS anime, produced by Madhouse in Tokyo, partnered with Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan.
