Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Look out! Sony Pictures and Shout Factory have announced the release date of the much-delayed DVD compilation, Mr. Magoo: The Theatrical Collection (1949-1959). The four-disc boxed set will be available on April 22nd 2014.

Quite simply, if the CG Mickey couldn't match the hand-drawn model refashioned to look like the 1928 original, the Oscar-nominated Get A Horse! short wouldn't have worked. And that was the responsibility of CG supervisor Adam Green (Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled), who worked side-by-side with 2D supervisor Eric Goldberg. Indeed, Green was mentored by Goldberg during this unique production that brilliantly encapsulates the history of Mickey and Disney.

Academy Award nominated animation director Michael Sporn has passed away. A champion and staple of the New York animation scene since the 1970s, Sporn’s presence – both behind the camera and online through his “splog” – will be missed by the entire community.
