Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Gkids To Distribute Studio Ghibli's "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya"

GKIDS has announced it has entered into a distribution agreement with Studio Ghibli for the North American rights to the upcoming animated feature The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya. Directed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, the film is slated for a late 2014 theatrical release and Awards submissions.

The world-wide feature animation market is dominated by large players hitched to the comedy bandwagon. Nevertheless, the recent Cartoon Movie conference showed that artists and studios are willing and able to create innovative animated films - proving the medium is very far from being stale.

Check out this short film, now tied to prints of Mr. Peabody and Sherman, featuring Steve Martin as the voice the lead alien. It's actually an unusual teaser/trailer for Dreamworks "Home", which Fox will release on November 26th.

The dry, sardonic and droll Bugs Bunny of "The Looney Tunes Show" is gone. "The hilarious, heroic and mischievous Bugs Bunny you love is back" according to the Cartoon Network who is once again reviving the classic in a new series, "Wabbit - A Looney Tunes Production".

Bringing Jay Ward's Mr. Peabody - a TV cartoon classic - to the big screen had to have been daunting. How do you get the most out of big-budget CG but retain the charm, coy humor and character integrity of the original? Somehow they pulled it off - with a healthy respect for the past as well as the present.

Here's the second teaser for Stand By Me Doreamon, the first 3D CG film starring the famed anime robot cat, opening in Japanese theaters on August 8th. Directed by Takashi Yamazaki and Ryuichi Yagi, this film will be released by Walt Disney International Japan.
