Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

DreamWorks Animation will release some of its earliest titles to Blu-ray this May. The films will hit stores via two Triple Feature collections focusing on the studio's Aardman and traditionally-animated efforts.

Here's our first peek at "Paddington", a live action/CG animation hybrid film, based on a classic series of children's books. It's opening in UK cinemas on November 28th, and the film will be released in the US via Harvey and Bob Weinstein's TWC-Dimension, probably in the early months of 2015.

Joe Pearson's War of the Worlds: Goliath opens in selected cities (and VOD) this Friday. It begins at the end of H.G. Wells' famed novel, then flashes forward fifteen years to the Martians' inevitable return. The film is beautifully realized via a surprisingly seamless blend of CG and hand-drawn animation. Yes, HAND-DRAWN ANIMATION. Lots of it!

This was a big victory for Walt Disney Animation Studios. For the first time in the thirteen years this award has been presented, Disney wins the prize. The win was particularly sweet for those who appreciate the classic Disney musical fairy tale - a genre the studio planned to abandon a few years ago.

If you haven't seen the Oscar nominated Ernest and Celestine, this is the week to do it. It opens in LA today at the Landmark Theatre in West L.A.. The director (Benjamin Renner) and the producer (Didier Brunner) of the film are going to be at the Landmark on Saturday for a Q&A (4PM show) and to introduce the 6:15PM show.

TRAILER: Chinese Animation Spectacular "The God Hunter"

Coming in 2015 from China's Vasoon Animation, this hand drawn animated feature - once again, based on the classic Asian "Monkey King" legend. The studio has bestowed the English title "The God Hunter" on the film, though other details are sketchy. But whatever the title, whoever the filmmakers, this trailer is a must-see.
