Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Chris Williams has joined Don Hall as co-director of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ animated adaptation of Marvel comics' Big Hero 6. Williams previously co-wrote and co-directed Bolt andWinnie the Pooh for Disney. More recently, Williams voiced Frozen's gentle giant, Oaken.

The world of animation grew darker and my own world grew sadder when Frederic Back passed away the day before Christmas at 89. Hayao Miyazaki remains the most admired artist in animation, but Frederic was the most beloved.

I caught up with Chris Wedge again when he was in town recently to revisit the underrated Epic, his most personal film and one of my favorites of the year. The lush swashbuckler has a heartfelt father/daughter story and looks beneath the surface in discovering hidden truths about life and nature. We also looked forward to his first live-action feature, Monster Trucks (May 29, 2015).
