Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Frederator's "Bee And PuppyCat" Raises $872,133 on Kickstarter

Frederator Studios announced today that it has secured $872,133 in funding from a Kickstarter.com campaign (that just concluded an hour ago) to fund the production of additional episodes of its hit animated short, Bee & PuppyCat, created by Adventure Time animator Natasha Allegri.

This weekend in Burbank is the "comic con" for professional animators, animation students and all those involved in the artistic side of the cartoon and visual effects field. The CTN Animation Expo at the Burbank Airport Marriott begins on Friday at noon and runs through Sunday night.

FOX has by far the best record when it comes to animation on a broadcast network and have persisted time and again with animation even if shows didn't quite prove to be hits. However, with yet another McFarlane-esque show scheduled for the line-up, it's clear that Animation Domination has had it's 'jump the shark' moment.

As part of a themed day of programming in honor of Mickey Mouse's birthday, Disney Channel will debut the first-ever "extended episode" of their brand-new Mickey Mouse cartoons on Monday November 18th. There's also a new book of classic Mickey Mouse comic strips, a film retrospective at New York's Film Forum - and "Get a Horse".

Gkids has announced the English language voice cast for their Oscar qualified animated feature Ernest and Celestine. The Twilight Saga's Mackenzie Foy (as Celestine) will join The Butler's Forest Whitaker (as Ernest) in voicng the lead characters.

The Academy released it's short list of nominees for the Best Animated Short category this morning. Disney's Get A Horse will face off against artists Theodore Ushev, Chris Landreth, and films from Japan, Denmark and France.
