Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Disney, Hubley, Lantz Animation Named To National Film Registry

Disney's Mary Poppins, John and Faith Hubley's The Hole, and Walter Lantz - by way of his sequence in the 1930 feature The King Of Jazz - were honored today as national treasures by the Library of Congress.

Do Girls Watch Animated Superhero Shows?

Apparently girls don't like or watch superhero shows - or at least Hollywood thinks so. According to one of the top writers in TV animation, executives would rather ignore half the population because they think they don't buy the merchandise associated with a show.

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Award nominees were announce this morning. No surprises here. Nominated for Best Animated Feature were Disney's Frozen, Illumination's Despicable Me 2, and Dreamworks The Croods. Studio Ghibli's The Wind Rises was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

Here's our latest, best look yet at Legends Of OZ: Dorothy's Return. Directed by Daniel St. Pierre and Will Finn, with the voices of Lea Michele (as Dorothy), Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Kelsey Grammar, the film was produced by Summertime Entertainment, with animation production at Prana Studios in Mumbai, India.
