Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

POSTER: "The Boxtrolls"

Focus Features has released a new poster for The Boxtrolls, the stop-motion animated feature from Laika Studios. The story of an orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors, based on the novel ‘Here Be Monsters’ by Alan Snow, opens on September 26th.

On of the big surprises (to me) at Comic Con was the footage screened for the forthcoming Dreamworks feature The Penguins of Madagascar. The film simply looks hilarious. Directed by Eric Darnell, Simon J. Smith and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Stormare and John Malkovich - here is trailer 2.

The "Dragon Ball Z" franchise has encompassed over 500 TV episodes, three TV specials, 42 graphic novels, plus numerous soundtracks, video games and toys. Now comes the eighteenth animated feature: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods opening in 800 theaters this week by Funimation. Here's my review.

Cartoon Saloon animation studio gave a presentation at Woodbury University in Burbank, California - the same presentation that Cartoon Saloon gave at the 2014 Comic-Con International in San Diego the previous week - on the studio’s second theatrical animated feature, Song of the Sea, due to be released in America later this year by GKIDS.
