This didn't take long. On Tuesday, Lionsgate released an English dub of a Russian animated feature that is a direct knock-off of Disney's Planes. Featuring the voices of Josh Duhamel, Rob Schneider, Hilary Duff, Tom Skerritt, and Jesse McCartney, "Wings" can now be purchased at Walmart or rented through Redbox. Here's the official trailer.

The characters and plot in Planes are so familiar, it feels like Disney went directly to Planes 2 or 3, without bothering to pause at a first movie. It’s yet another underdog-coming-from-behind story with elements of Cars, Cars 2, Despicable Me and Turbo.

On Phineas & Ferb, Martin Olson is a writer, actor and songwriter; his daughter Olivia sings many of the songs and performs the voice of Dr. Doofensmirtz's daughter, Vanessa. On Adventure Time, Olivia voices and sings for vampire Marceline - with Martin voicing her evil dad. I sat down with Martin and Olivia to get the story on how they do it all.

The newly released "complete series" DVD from Shout Factory contains 62 episodes but alas, no bonus features. I asked one of the show’s five directors, Gary Conrad (now working on "The Fairly OddParents"), to comment on the episodes he worked and what he liked best about the vintage Nickelodeon series.

Simpson's artist Luis Escobar raises this very question on his blog as a way of stimulating discussion amongst the animation community. It's a good point to raise, especially as animated films dominate the box office and CGI is wholly dominant amongst those.

The Smurfs 2 epitomizes the sort of toxic jollification that’s billed as "fun for the whole family," but that no one really enjoys.
