I recently sat down with Shona Grundy, CEO of Trigger Happy, to talk about their new app Toon Hero. Toon Hero is a fun app that allows the user to make up stories and cartoons featuring some of their favorite characters. You provide the voices and sound effects, and Toon Hero fills in the rest.

At a time when sometimes heated discussions rage over the sameness in tone, content and look in American CG features, Colorful serves as a welcome reminder that animation has a unique power to touch deeply felt emotions and tackle serious social problems.

No, not Disney's "Frozen". A new film of The Snow Queen, directed by Vladlen Barbe and Maxim Sveshnikov, has just been released and has received more interest that it would otherwise because it’s being released just a few weeks before Disney's feature. It left me cold.

Jerry Beck and I got a sneak peek of Frozen a couple of weeks ago, and judging by the 20 minutes of footage we glimpsed, this is definitely a fresh take on the Disney fairy tale and the clear Oscar frontrunner. Frozen melds hand-drawn and CG into a new aesthetic that's both stunningly realistic yet richly stylized.
