Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Laika, the Portland-based studio stop-motion studio (Coraline, ParaNorman) has released its first teaser for The Boxtrolls. Focus Features will release the film featuring the voices of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Toni Collette and Tracy Morgan, in theaters next year. Here's a peek.

Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) has teamed with Toronto based animator Sam Chou and writer/filmmaker Alix Lambert to adapt Lambert's book Crime into a six-part web-series. The show is an exploration of crime and criminal behavior using real interviews and real stories from the actual people. It features a bank robbers, cops, gangsters, and victims of crime but ultimately it's about how crime affects all of us. Also, each episode has a drastically different look and is animated by different animator/designers.

Opening this month at the Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks, California, is a preview showing of original animation art being offered in an incredible auction by Profiles in History. The auction includes over 900 lots that include key pieces from just about every classic Disney animated feature, and rare material from Hollywood cartoon shorts.
