Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Disney Expands Its D23 Website

I don't usually plug other websites - especially corporate ones. But I just got a look at the new D23.com that is going live today and must recommend it to my friends who are Disney aficionados. They've enhanced and expanded the site in a complete overhaul that will provide more solid information and historical research than ever before.

This Friday June 28th, the Disney Channel will begin rolling out a set of the 19 new Mickey Mouse shorts now in production. Emmy Award-winning artist and director Paul Rudish (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dexter's Laboratory) is the executive producer and director. Here's a sneak peek at what he has in store.

Rio 2096, A Story of Love and Fury, the 2D animated feature about the love between an immortal hero and a woman he has been in love with for 600 years, won the Best Feature award this weekend at the Annecy International Animation Festival.

Adventure Time is one of those properties that taps right into what its audience is looking for at just the right time. Though there is undoubtedly an adult crossover – and certainly a college student following – Adventure Time nails what I would surmise is its target: children and adolescents.

Above is the general public's first look at an image from Get A Horse, the Mickey Mouse short screened last Tuesday at the Annecy Animation Festival in France. On June 11th, Walt Disney Animation Studios filmmakers Lauren MacMullan, Dorothy McKim, Adam Green and Disney animator Eric Goldberg presented the world debut of the film which features Walt Disney himself as the voice of Mickey Mouse and Billy Bletcher as Peg Leg Pete.

E3 Day One

The first day of E3 was a blur of pixels, PR, and people. There were a ton of games that were playable on the show floor. I looked around, and was more impressed with some of the lesser known games than the parade of sequels and reimagining of existing IPs, but since there were so many, I’m going to cover those first.
