Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Here's a first look at the upcoming CGI Sonic The Hedgehog series, Sonic Boom. Scheduled to play on Cartoon Network in the US, the show is produced out of France by Sega and OuiDO! Productions.

Here's our first "listen" to the English language dub for the Oscar nominated animated feature Ernest & Celestine. The voice cast includes Forest Whitaker, Lauren Bacall, Paul Giamatti, William H. Macy, Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman, and opens in LA on February 28th and in NY on March 14th, followed by national expansion to all major US markets.

REVIEW: "The Lego Movie"

The Lego Movie is a textbook example of a film that’s “review proof.” Whether critics like it or not - or whether it’s any good or not - it will make money because every little boy in the country will insist on being taken to it, probably multiple times. The Lego Movie is often clever and funny, although it could easily have been better.

I'm loving the new series of Mickey Mouse shorts that Disney Channel is producing. Next week, just in time for Valentine's Day a new one will premiere. The title of the short is Third Wheel and we have a hilarious exclusive clip to share.

Maybe it was the wacky LEGOLAND backdrop (with the marvelous miniature set behind them), or the funny nature of the movie itself, or the fact that Morgan Freeman was such a hoot, but the LEGO Movie press conference was even more fun than expected. Among the participants were directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller; voice talent Chris Pratt, Freeman, Will Arnett, and Elizabeth Banks; producer Dan Lin; and animation supervisor Chris McKay. Here's the full film program of animated features for the upcoming New York International Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF) which runs from March 7-30th. The 17th annual event will be presenting a wide array of films (and shorts) for all ages including a special preview screening of Muppets Most Wanted and Rio 2.

I recently chatted with the Oscar nominees for Feral (Daniel Sousa), Get a Horse! (Lauren MacMullan), Mr. Hublot (Laurent Witz), Possessions (Shuhei Morita), and Room on the Broom (Max Lang). We discussed personal connections and challenges. Interestingly, all five of the films explore the theme of adjusting to change in our lives.
