Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

2nd Trailer Masaaki Yuasa's "Kick-Heart"

We posted last month about the wild new short film directed by Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game). Here's the official trailer for the film, which was produced through crowd funding via Kickstarter, in collabortion with Japan's Production I.G. It has been selected for competition by France's Annecy Animation Festival in June.

After The Croods, Epic and Turbo, 20th Century-Fox has a fourth animated feature coming out during 2013 - Walking With Dinosaurs The Movie 3D. Directed by Barry Cook (Mulan) with documentary filmmaker Nigel Nightengale, with animation from Australia's Animal Logic (Happy Feet), here's the trailer.

Blu Sky's Epic is a visually stunning film, an amazing leap forward for the Connecticut studio; no previous film by the team has been as technically impressive or imaginatively executed, and this is where author Tara Bennett shines as chronicler.

Just in time for Indy 500 weekend! Dreamworks has created a faux-ad for a faux-energy drink - endorsed by race car driver Guy Gagne (voiced by Bill Hader), a character featured in Dreamworks' forthcoming Turbo. Check it out.

It's not a disaster or an embarrassment like Hoodwinked or Barnyard, but given the experience and abilities of Chris Wedge and Blue Sky artists, it should be better.

Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters is an animated action/adventure TV series based on a collectible card game developed by Wizards of the Coast and produced by Hasbro Studios. Blue Sky's biggest achievement on Epic was going naturalistic for a more believable animation style. However, scale was the biggest challenge in delineating the human and microscopic forest worlds, according to producer Michael Travers, production designer Greg Couch, and animation supervisors Galen Chu and Melvin Tan.

This past week, at the Cannes Film Festival, Toei has unveiled this ten-minute preview for their anime epic Buddha 2: Endless Journey. Based on Osamu Tezuka's classic manga series, the second part of a planned trilogy, the feature is scheduled to be released theatrically in Japan in February 2014.
