Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

Earlier today, the landmark Rocky & Bullwinkle statue was removed from its Sunset Blvd. location of over 50 years. It was sent to Dreamworks Animation for repair. But where will it end up after that?

The LEGO Movie (Feb. 7, 2014) was best summed up by directors Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Chris McKay at Comic-Con as an organic stop-motion vibe, as though LEGOS had really come to life. Imagine if Michael Bay had kidnapped Henry Selick and forced him to make the movie he saw in his brain.

We post the teaser last month. Now, here is the full-length trailer for anime-master Hayao Miyazaki's latest Studio Ghibli release, The Wind Rises. The film tells the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the infamous Japanese Zero Fighters used in World War II.

The Art of Turbo revels in details that nicely complement a viewing of the film. Overall, Robert Abele's book is strongest in conveying the conceptions behind the film, and the insights and ideas of the designers and artists.

First Marvel, now Star Wars. Announced today at Comic Con, Disney animated hit series Phineas and Ferb is planing another company-wide crossover, this time with Lucasfilm. The series creators are palnning "an epic ode to Star Wars" now in production.

I've seen all manner of advertising in this town - i.e. mega building-size billboards that rival Times Square - but in all my years of riding subways, this was a first: Disney has plastered the ceilings of LA subway cars with posters for their forthcoming animated feature, Planes.
