Animation Scoop Editor Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of over 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is on the faculty of Woodbury University in Burbank and his latest book is The Art of Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

That cat is out of the bag as far as the Los Angeles Times is concerned. Animated films are coming out thick, fast, and too close together for the market to bear. Box office grosses are down, and large studios like DreamWorks are starting to feel the pinch.

Warner Bros. will release Magical Girl Madoka / Magika, Part III: The Rebellion Story on October 26th in Tokyo. The film, based on a popular Japanese TV show about girls possessed by magic, is an all-new part of a trilogy based on the original series.

Hand drawn animated features are NOT dead. At least not in Brazil. Ate que a Sbornia nos separe (Til Sbornia Do Us Part), directed by the Otto Guerra, opens this month in South America - and here is the mouth-watering trailer.

Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks (The Pixar Story, The Hand Behind The Mouse), granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, has a new documentary in the works about the studio: The Imagineering Story. It's just begun production and is not scheduled for release until 2016 - but an intriguing teaser trailer was released this week...
