The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced today the nominations for its annual British Academy Children's Awards, which honor the very best in children's media. The ceremony will be held on Sunday November 24th at the London Hilton.

Among the programs nominated this year are Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball, and John Coates final production, The Snowman and The Snowdog.

Created by the team behind the original short film, The Snowman (1982), based on Raymond Briggs' classic children's book, The Snowman and The Snowdog reunites viewers with The Snowman and introduces his new best friend, The Snowdog - complete with odd socks for ears and a satsuma for a nose. The film was written and directed by Hilary Audus and written and art directed by Joanna Harrison, both of whom worked as animators on the original film. Producers are Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding. The sequel is dedicated to the late John Coates, who produced the original THE SNOWMAN and was instrumental in getting the new film into production.
