Last night, at the World Animation and VFX Festival in Marina Del Rey, producer Tiffany Ward presented voice actress legend June Foray with a lifetime achievement award (below photo) - and tipped some news to the crowd. Today Dreamworks Animation made it official - there will be a new Rocky and Bullwinkle theatrical short released in 2014.

Rocky & Bullwinkle, featuring the legendary June Foray as the voice of Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel, is an all-new short produced in the style of the original Jay Ward cartoon serials - albeit in 3-D CGI and in full animation.  Dreamworks Animation's Mr. Peabody and Sherman opens on March 7, reintroducing characters who initially appeared on the original Rocky And His Friends show - but no word yet if the the new Rocky and Bullwinkle short will accompany the feature.

June and Tiffany

"For an incredible 83 years, June Foray has left a tremendous imprint on the entire entertainment industry," said Executive Producer Tiffany Ward.  "Her amazingly indelible performances have enchanted generations and earned her a permanent place in the annals of popular culture."

Rocky & Bullwinkle is being directed by Gary Trousdale (Beauty and the Beast), produced by Denise Nolan Cascino (Megamind) and written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum). It stars June Foray as the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel and Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) as the voice of Bullwinkle Moose.

You know, I think I may like this, at least the models look better than the ones from the movie. Still seems strange that they're going for a different style for these two characters, but still looks pretty cute. :)

What are you talking about? At least the movie ''looked'' like the television counterparts. I have no idea what these atrocities even are.

Also Spongebob/ Ice King is a terrible choice for Bullwinkle.

You know, at first, I thought that the new CGI Rocky and Bullwinkle looked weird, and bad. But now I can see that they're going for a different style that doesn't perfectly emulate the original look of the characters.

The CGI designs look so improved over their cheap computer animation from that crappy live-action/animated film from Universal Pictures in my opinion.

It's great to see June Foray coming back to play Rocky, but Tom Kenny as Bullwinkle? He better have that character's voice.

Thank Goodness this is gonna be full animation. Unless its Who Framed Roger Rabbit? You never go half animation.

I love that DreamWorks collaborated with the Taiwanese News folks on the look of Bullwinkle. We don't see enough experimental animation from the major studios these days.

    Ok, wait a second.

Having some awesome 2D sequences. what is dreamworks waiting for to use them on short films?
