This is the first of a series of posts which will highlight recent and upcoming videogames that you may not be aware of. The games that go under the magnifying glass will all have a unique look, and focus heavily on art and animation. They are worth checking out.

First up is Guacamelee. With a main character who gets killed right at the start of the game, and an art style that pays homage to all things luchador, Guacamelee is not your typical game. Recently released on the PS3 and PS Vita, Guacamelee is a visual feast. The animation is snappy, with every punch, hit, and chicken transformation feeling very nice.

Created by Canadian developer Drinkbox Studios, Guacamelee is their third title. The first two titles, "Tales from Space: About a Blob" and "Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack" were both very well received by both the press and the gaming public.

Guacamelee has a fun story, and a unique art style that makes the Metroid/Castlevania style quest to find El Presidente's Daughter one to remember. With two player co-op, a friend can get in on the action as well.
