This year marks the 17th anniversary (birthday) of the original Team Fortress, which was released on August 24, 1996. Valve celebrates by adding special birthday items to Team Fortress 2 for a limited time. This year is different however, because the birthday update did not go out automatically on the correct day. On a live title such as Team Fortress 2, some events can be time locked, set to unlock on specific days. Halloween, Christmas, Anniversaries, and even Full Moons are common special event days.
For whatever reason, this year was different. The birthday event did not unlock automatically, and the community noticed.
If you’re not familiar with Team Fortress 2, and you enjoy video games and animation, you must have just beamed here from another planet. For the uninitiated, have a look at a few of the Meet The Team videos.
Team Fortress 2 continues to entertain audiences, five years and over 300 updates later. Happy birthday, Team Fortress 2!
