Larry Mann, Voice of Yukon Cornelius, RIP

Actor Larry D. Mann, who's most famous riole was that of  Yukon Cornelius in the 1964 animated Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, has died. He was 91.

His son, Richard Mann, says the actor died of age-related causes on Monday in Los Angeles. 

Though he appeared in many movies and TV shows (in smaller roles) he found great success and notoriety in animated films - as the voice of DePatie Freleng's theatrical shorts Blue Racer (pictured below) and Crazy Legs Crane; and Rankin-Bass' Tin Man "Rusty" in their series Tales of the Wizard Of Oz.

Beginning in the 1950s, the Canadian-born Mann had small roles in movies, including The Sting and In the Heat of the NightOn TV, his appearances included Gunsmoke, Bewitched, Captain Nice, The Green Hornet and Hill Street Blues.

He also did voice work for numerous animated shows, including Rankin-Bass' Willy McBean and His Magic Machine, Depatie Freleng's Here Comes The Grump, and Hanna-Barbera's Scooby Doo.

    What a remarkable voice talent. I wonder if he was able to surprise people with a Yukon C. performance even at 91?

    Larry also played The Big Boss in a series of telephone commercials for Bell Canada in the 1980s and early 1990s. His most famous line was "We're not sure," referring to the fate of ex-employee Herbert T. Langley. When Larry was at Kilauea a fan pointed to the lava lake and yelled "There he is!"
