Looking for a pre-Oscar party that has nothing to do with the Academy Awards - and everything to do with the art of animation?

The MOOSYLVANIA event on Saturday night at the Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks (Los Angeles) is shaping up to be one of the big animation bashes of the year - rain or shine.

The evening is an art show/opening night reception/booksigning and tribute to Jay Ward Productions and his animated characters: Moosylvania: A Group Art Show Tribute to Jay Ward - on Saturday, March 1st, 6:00pm to 10:00pm at 13613 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks CA.

Featured will be artwork by more than 100 contemporary artists, animators, illustrators and designers - each artist creating, in their own style, a piece inspired by the films and charcaters of Jay Ward Productions.

Curated by Phillip Graffham, the opening reception is Saturday, March 1st 2014, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Noted animation director Darrell Van Citters will be present and signing his new book, The Art of Jay Ward ProductionsAnd yours truly, Jerry Beck, will also be on hand to sign the new book, The Art of Dreamworks Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

This event is Free and open to the public. Be there!

If you cannot make it on Saturday, Darrell Van Citters and I will be signing our books and hosting a panel at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica on Sunday March 16th at 5:30pm. The Aero will screen several classic episodes of Rocky and Bullwinkle on the big screen - and special guests, including Jay Ward designer Sam Clayberger, Ward story man Allan Burns and voice actress legend June Foray, will participate in a Q&A. More info here

And finally, if you are snowed in this month you can still enjoy the Jay Ward festivities from your own home. Mr. Peabody and Sherman "A Journey WABAC" is now playing on Netfix - and yes, it's a 22 minute promotional film tied to the upcoming Dreamworks feature. But Darrell and I participated with it and provide commentary about the history of the Ward characters, with some rare art and animation. Check it out on Netflix
