If you love cartoons, you probably love comic books. As a child of "the Marvel Age of Comics" I did a delirious double take when I saw this cover (drawn by Jacob Chabot) of what United Plankton Pictures is calling The SpongeBob Comics Super Giant Swimtacular #1.
The book is "Golden Age" length (48-pages) and features all-new stories featuring SpongeBob's favorite TV heroes, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. One of them reunites Mermaid Man's Golden Age team, The Aquatic Adventurers, in a story called "Lo, There Shall Be a Catered Event". This story contains art by veteran Superman artist Jerry Ordway. Another story in the book brings back legendary Silver Age comics artist Ramona Fradon (Aquaman) to draw Mermaid Man in "Sidekick Blues".
All this - plus more stories and a tour of the "Mermalair", a look at Plankton and Gary's brief super-careers, spoofs of classic comic book ads, and a double-page spread depicting every Bikini Bottom superhero and villain. The book goes on sale June 19th at comic book stores everyhere -or you can pre-order it here.
