I found it refreshing to read and review Charles Solomon's The Art of Disney's Frozen. Solomon concentrates far more on the story, writing, and artistic presentation of the film than most books in this genre do - making it a must-have.

With Frozen (opening today), can you imagine what it would feel like if you wrote the songs and this was your first Disney animated feature? A dreamlike sense of "Is this really happening?" Exhilaration? Trepidation? For Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, it’s all of the above and more.

Frozen provides further proof that we're experiencing a new Disney renaissance under John Lasseter. If Wreck-It Ralph seemed thematically subversive while still leveraging the hand-drawn legacy to guide the CG, then Frozen takes it even further. It's the most feminist take yet on the musical princess fairy tale.

Frozen will commendably fulfill its role in the roster of legendary Disney animated features. If the consistent on-the-nose gags don't keep you enthralled, the stunning animation will.

In honor of Mickey's 85th birthday today, I go deeper into Disney's "Get A Horse!" hybrid short with Eric Goldberg -- who served as the 2D supervisor and made the blueprint for staying true to the 1928 model -- and with a clip of the first minute of the film.

Jerry Beck and I got a sneak peek of Frozen a couple of weeks ago, and judging by the 20 minutes of footage we glimpsed, this is definitely a fresh take on the Disney fairy tale and the clear Oscar frontrunner. Frozen melds hand-drawn and CG into a new aesthetic that's both stunningly realistic yet richly stylized.

We don't usually do fashion pieces here, but this new Mickey Through The Decades collection has caught my eye. Lest you think the new Mickey Mouse shorts for the Disney Channel, or the forthcoming theatrical cartoon, Get A Horse, are the only retro-Mickey/Minnie projects on the Disney agenda - think again.

On June 11th, Walt Disney Animation Studios filmmakers Lauren MacMullan, Dorothy McKim, Adam Green and Disney animator Eric Goldberg presented the world debut of the film which features Walt Disney himself as the voice of Mickey Mouse and Billy Bletcher as Peg Leg Pete.
