E3 Day One

The first day of E3 was a blur of pixels, PR, and people. There were a ton of games that were playable on the show floor. I looked around, and was more impressed with some of the lesser known games than the parade of sequels and reimagining of existing IPs, but since there were so many, I’m going to cover those first.

You need to see these. Artist Amanda Visell recently created a set of uber-cool Ren & Stimpy wood figures for Nickelodeon and I am 8bit. These limited edition Acrylic on hand-crafted wood-sculptures are very expensive - but so cool to look at.

How sad and ironic: A week after the wonderful "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" 25th anniversary celebration at the Academy, Disney lays off some key hand-drawn 2D animation vets as part of its studio-wide downsizing.

"Duck Tales" Video Game Returns in HD

WayForward and Capcom have recently announced that they are releasing an HD remake of DuckTales, an asset for asset remastering of the original 1989 game, with high resolution imagery on the characters, backgrounds, and remastered audio.

Appreciating The Animated Annette

Annette Funicello's passing has created a huge wave of emotional reaction, and it shouldn't be forgotten that Annette also made her mark in animation. Not in a Disney feature or even a cartoon short, but in a set of wonderful stop-motion sequences created by two other Disney Legends, X Atencio and Bill Justice.

Auctioned by Bonhams in 2011, a rare 16mm print of a lost silent-era Oswald The Lucky Rabbit cartoon, Hungry Hobos (1928), has since obtained by the Walt Disney Company It's been digitally restored and is ready to be screened again after an 85 year absence.
