With the news that Netflix acquired recent Toronto world premiere "The Prisoner: Or, How I Planned to Kill Tony Blair," the release of "Sherrybaby," the company's first big Sundance acquistion, last weekend, and a Wired magazine puff piece hailing the DVD mail-order company's foray into independent filmmaking, I thought it was important to revisit the title question, posed in a blog post not long ago.
In its neverending quest to disseminate valuable information to the independent filmmaker, Filmmaker Magazine was recently kind enough to post my recent column on Netflix at its website. Let's just step back and look at the economic realities of the situation before we start going off and tooting Netflix's horn.
