Sarah Jacobson Film Grant

In honor of fallen punk-rock indie directing queen Sarah ("Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore") Jacobson (please check out these links -- an article, YouTube -- for some fond memories), the Free History Project has established the Sarah Jacobson Film Grant to support young female filmmakers whose work embodies some of the things that Sarah stood for: a fierce DIY approach to filmmaking, a radical social critique, and a thoroughly underground sensibility.

This year, the project will give out two grants of $1,500 each to support film projects in any stage of completion from pre-production through distribution. "We are open to films of any length and genre, from documentary to experimental to narrative. What we are looking for are projects that in some way embody Sarah’s spirit and represent the values that she articulated in her work," according to the grant givers. Deadline is May 25.

Last year, the grant gave $750 grants to filmmakers Gretchen Hogue, Kara Herold Bachelorette, and Vanessa Renwick.

Awesome.

You can get 1000 DVDs replicated & packaged for retail sale for less than $1500 (at Discmakers & other places).

Also, you can definitely shoot a big chunk, if not the whole thing, of a DIY "no"-budget DV movie for $1500.

Thanks for spreading the word AK. Will place some links to this grant from my blogs.
