Errol Morris Unveils "S.O.P." and "Cartesian Blogging"
0

Errol Morris' "Standard Operating Procedure" -- his long-awaited doc on Abu Ghraib and the Bush Administration's torture policies -- will have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, it was reported this morning. I wonder if by some miracle of luck, Morris got a hold of the infamous C.I.A. torture tapes before they were illegally destroyed. Either way, I'm sure it'll be compelling stuff and can't wait to see it. In the meantime, you can get your fill of Morris' wry, cinephiliac, epistemological rants in his latest New York Times blog -- a back-and-forth with readers that touches on everything from the history of the blogger comment (going back to the 1685 edition of Descartes' “Meditations"), a thoughtful rumination on "Rashomon" and its relationship to truth ("Is “Rashomon” about the absence of absolute truth or is it about how our vested interests prevent us from acknowledging the truth, admitting to the truth — seeing the truth?") and the validities (or not) of postmodern theories of truth.
