Todd Haynes Shoots Dylan on Monday

Todd Haynes fans will be happy to hear that principal photography is starting Monday on the director's unconventional Bob Dylan bio-pic "I'm Not There" (though Minnesotans and New Yorkers may be disappointed to hear the film is shooting exclusively in Montreal.)

Six actors will play the iconic singer-songwriter in his different life-guises: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, and Ben Whishaw.

Among Haynes' collaborators on the film crew are cinematographer Ed Lachman (Far From Heaven), production designer Judy Becker (Brokeback Mountain), costume designer John Dunn (Casino) and editor Jay Rabinowitz (The Fountain). The Dylan soundtrack will feature performances by Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Richie Havens, and the band Calexico.

The film is still without a U.S. distributor. But let's hope someone with muscle and taste, such as Focus Features, steps up to the plate.
