Venice Announced: My Top 15 Pix to See
0

The 63rd Venice Film Festival just announced its line-up, with directors such as Stephen Frears, Darren Aronofsky, Emilio Estevez, Emanuele Crialese and Alfonso Cuaron vying in the festival's competition for the Golden Lion. For the first time in Venice's history, all 21 films in competition will be world premieres, according to Screen Daily. (This could be both good and bad.)

While there are a number of noteworthy films in the selection, here are 15 that I'm most anticipating (and will probably see in Toronto a couple weeks after they debut in Italy):

"Fallen" (Barbara Albert, Austria)
"Chilldren of Men" (Alfonso Cuaron, UK-USA)
"The Black Dahlia" (Brian De Palma, USA)
"The Queen" (Stephen Frears, UK-France)
"I Don't Want to Sleep Alone" (Tsai Ming-liang, Taiwan-France-Austria)
"Paprika" (Satoshi Kon, Japan)
"Black Book" (Paul Verhoeven, Netherlands)
"Inland Empire" (David Lynch, USA)
"Suely Brazil" (Karim Ainouz, Brazil)
"Koorogi" (Shinji Aoyama, Japan)
"Dong" (Jia Zhang-ke, China)
"When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts" (Spike Lee, USA)
"Private Fears in Public Places" (Alain Resnais, France-Italy)
"Syndromes and a Century" (Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Thailand-France)
"The Hottest State" (Ethan Hawke, USA)
