While the larger context of their protest has to do with strong sanctions imposed by the European Union, Sajjadrpur said that specificaly "The Paternal House" -- which reportedly depicts problems faced by women in Iran -- required additional edits before being allowed to be screened. “The modifications have not been made yet. Consequently the film is not allowed to premiere in Iran and abroad,” said Sajjadpur.

According to previous announcements, the film chronicles the life of a man from his teenage years to the age of 86.

Kianoush Ayyari's credits include To Be or Not to Be, Wake Up Arezu and The Days of Gharib.

The 69th Venice Film Festival will open with Mira Nair’s Reluctant Fundamentalist on August 29.
