Concepts and Blogs
Two major parallel tech development routes happening on indieWIRE. One set is the first fruit of our labors on the "conceptapedia" we're deriving from indiWIRE -- our glacial file-chomping monster of a search engine has been replaced by a slick new concept-based engine. It seems to be doing a pretty dang good job on the kinds of major topics we cover, but still has to resort to brute force on some more obscure phrases that the engine hasn't recognized as concepts. It's also now powering the distributor and film sections of the box office. Net gain? Searches that used to take 40 seconds are now running 4, and scrubber processes that took 4 hours to run now run in 20 minutes. The second set is this blogging community, and the ways we'll be able to slice and dice this across the indieWIRE site. Of course, it's still a couple of weeks before the rest of you get to read all these blogs, but some of you will come stumbling upon this eventually. Right now, it's just the core staff (Brian x2, Ken, Karol, J.D., Eugene, Wendy, and James) with blogs, that will be expanding quickly once we've used these test feeds to start powering other features.
