Watch: 5 Cinematic Threesomes With Narrative Value (and 5 With Not So Much)

The cinematic threesome is a curious beast - curious enough that someone made a whole film on the subject (1994’s “Threesome”). Some are so infamous they have eclipsed the fame of the film in which they feature - certainly the case with “Wild Things," a perfect definition of a softcore Hollywood sex scene, complete with a nice wide shot of Matt Dillon in a quite clear state of complete non-arousal.

Listen to ceo's 'Wonderland'

Swedish musician Eric Berglund (formerly of "The Tough Alliance") has released his latest foray into audio utopia. Making music under the name ceo since 2010's "White Magic", this follow-up album "Wonderland" is totally life-affirming and daydreamy, and thus a whole lot of fun.

Watch: Philip Seymour Hoffman Takes Down Gay Republicans, and Clips From His Other Defining Queer Roles

“When I play somebody gay, I never think of it as "I'm playing a gay character"”, Philip Seymour Hoffman told Michael Musto back in 2005. “It's interesting to play all the different aspects of the character. There's something else about the character that's pulling me there that I identify with”.

Essay: On Reading 'Velvet Goldmine' as a Reaction To AIDS Activism Burnout -- And How Todd Haynes Himself Doesn't Quite Agree

Two years ago I wrote a thesis about political tendencies in contemporary, popular American representations of HIV/AIDS, the thematic centrepiece of which was Todd Haynes’s 1998 glam rock retrospective Velvet Goldmine. In my thesis I argue that Velvet Goldmine, at the time of it was made, was reacting to the melancholic burnout that had affected AIDS activists in the 1990s. This previous autumn I had the chance to meet Todd Haynes at a special Q&A that was held at the Cinemateque in Vancouver, as a kick-off to a weekend-long retrospective of the director’s filmography. I took this event as an opportunity to share with Haynes my reading of his film. With utmost charm and cordiality he told me my reading was wrong.
