MIX Auction

MIX NYC's Naked Eye Celebrity Camera Auction is back, and starting today you can bid on hundreds of disposable cameras that have been filled with photos from celebrities of all sorts of cultural backgrounds -- music, film, TV, literature, dance, performance art, porn, and more. This year's participants include James Franco, Michael Cera, Amy Sedaris, Parker Posey, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the cast of Bob's Burgers, Le1F, Ira Sachs, Cakes da Killa, Elvira, Sally Jessy Raphael, Catherine Opie, the Cockyboys, Stephin Merritt, Gregg Araki, Alaska Thunderfuck, BenDeLaCreme, Rebecca Gayheart, Frankie Alvarez, and Lea DeLaria.

The festival gives the cameras to those folks, asks them to shoot some 'em up (with 28 photos on each), and then they are returned to be auction of on ebay to raise money for MIX -- the longest running LGBT film festival in New York.

"We love doing this auction specifically because the contents of the cameras are "unknown,'" Frank Susa, Managing director of MIX told us. "The element of surprise for the winner is a lot like experimental filmmaking itself. You don't necessarily know what you're going to get in the end."

Though they keep most of what's on the cameras a mystery, they did divulge, for instance, that Lea DeLaria's camera is filled with behind-the-scenes photos from the set of "Orange is the New Black," and Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson's were both taken on the set of "Modern Family." Parker Posey's camera includes shots of her from filming of the latest Henry Fool movie, "Ned Rifle," and Mink Stole's photos are a tour of her Baltimore home.

"Winners wind up with authenticated works of art that will be far more valuable than the cost of the disposable camera itself," Susa added. "For some, owning something made by a favorite artist, actor, or porn star is the most valuable thing. For others, it's the chance to peek into a celebrity's private life that that makes the camera so precious. But in the end, it's the exclusivity of ownership that really motivates the buyer. And, the auction format is what puts the price of that exclusivity within reach."

The auction begins on Monday, May 12th, with over 150 celebs giving a private glimpse into their world.

Here's the full list of celebs along with more info about the auction itself. MIX is also having a kick-off fundraiser party on May 15th (Thursday) at the Slipper Room with Alaska Thunderfuck emceeing.
