Laverne Cox is speaking in Toronto tomorrow night, and you'd be mad to miss it

It's turning into "celebrate the cast of Orange is the New Black" day today here at /bent, which is pretty much our favorite kind of day. This time, it's the turn of Laverne Cox, who as we have said many times in the past, has become absolutely exemplary at using her fame to promote causes she believes in.

This is easier said than done. Any celebrity can align themselves with a well-meaning cause, but few can succeed in exploiting the attention their name brings and then genuinely turning the spotlight away from them and onto the issue at stake.

But Laverne Cox is one of those few, which is why anyone in Toronto should do what they can to get hold of tickets to Cox's appearance in conversation with Wilson Cruz tomorrow night (details available here). There, the actor and advocate will discuss international transgender advocacy as well as her documentary project Free CeCe, which narrates the arrest and trial of a trans woman of color who defended herself against a violent transphobic attack.

For those of you who aren't able to make it, we promise to report on the event as details emerge.
