Like a lot of people, we're big, big fans of Marc Maron's WTF podcast. Nothing kills time on a bus or a treadmill or in an airport better than listening to some of your favorite people intimately, often hilariously relay their life stories to Maron.
The podcast got some major press this week thanks to guest Lena Dunham's comments about Woody Allen, but we were more struck by a conversation (around the 25 minute mark) in which Dunham and Maron basically talk about how to not fuck your life up (what "makes a productive human who will live longer than forty years," is how they specifically frame it), offering universal, simple (or maybe not so simple) tips that they try to live by. In summation:
1. Limit your drug intake.
2. Don't be an asshole.
3. Don't be self-destructive.
4. Follow your intuition (which Dunham admits is easier said than done because sometimes you go "but I don't have intuition).
5. Hold on and be good to the people in your life who make you feel good.
That's it folks. Do as Marc and Lena say. And listen to the entire podcast here, and we should also note given the manifesto of this blog that WTF regularly features some of the most fascinating LGBT folks around. If you're get your started in that regard: click Mike White, Dan Savage, Simon Amstell, David Sedaris and Sandra Bernhard.
