Like 'Looking'? Well, You Better Start Watching Legally Then.

Looking 2

The ratings for HBO's highly anticipated "Looking" are in, and it ain't looking good so far. It seems like more people wrote recaps on the series (including us) then actually watched it... at least legally. The series had 338,000 viewers at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday -- which was less than half of what "Girls" managed in the time slot before it.  And, hey, I get it: televisions are expensive, and so is HBO. But unless we want "Looking" to go way of "Enlightened," we should start making some collective efforts to resist the torrents. Especially since series tend to always find their true strides beyond season one.

HBO posted the entire first episode on YouTube!

I'd rather pay HBO to stop making this boring ass, homophobic, hipsters with internalized homophobia, nonsense.

Agreed. Network subscription service independent from cable is a thing that needs to happen. There is no way I'm going to pay a hundred or more dollars a month for a bunch of channels I don't even watch. If Looking actually ends up being a good show with a following, then Netflix or Hulu could buy it and continue with additional seasons (as they have done with several other shows). Unfortunately the pilot episode of Looking was a real snore fest. The characters aren't that memorable. Their issues are not that interesting. And the writing just isn't smart enough to be stimulating. Their ratings don't surprise me at all.

Most people who have subscriptions to HBO do not illegally download HBO shows. They don't have to because they can watch HBO on demand. If the writer is trying to get folks to subscribe to HBO then I think D.A. GARABEDIAN's comment to this story about HBO offering a cable-less subscription plan is the best solution.

I'd be happy to - as soon as HBO finally severs their ridiculous ties to the cable companies and offers a Netflix-style, cable-less subscription. I don't have cable because of the absurd telecom prices in Canada, therefore I have no means by which to give them my money.

no... dammit. i need this show. HBO, and TV its self has become so boring and homophobic in sense, by limiting gay characters story lines.

I have HBO and I loved "Looking". However, I live in Bulgaria... "Looking" will premiere here Spring 2014 according to HBO...
