It seemed like a head-scratcher that Disney kept the Kevin Costner track movie "McFarland" in a heavy-traffic pre-Thanksgiving slot as long as they have but now cooler and smarter heads have prevailed and the Mouse House moved the film to 2015. For late August it certainly was an interesting weekend for indie releases. Alfred Molina and John Lithgow proclaim that "Love Is Strange" and indie auds came out this weekend to see what the fuss was about. The film debuted to $127,000 in 5 runs. Elsewhere "The Trip To Italy" and "Boyhood" continue to post solid upscale market numbers.

It figured that the Luc Besson directed, Internationally set, actioner "Lucy" would eventually rise to the top of the overseas box office and it finally happened this weekend. Foreign auds went all in for a butt-kicking, super smart Scarlett Johansson in the title role, pulling in $34 million for the three days
