I will admit to being rather perplexed by "Transformers: Age of Extinction".  It has all the street cred of a big summer tentpole...Michael Bay, a bankable star in Mark Wahlberg, robots, noise, great special effects and a built in audience.  Yet it appears that the film won't crack the $100 barrier as the its' Thursday night shows totaled $8.8 million, which is still a hefty number but only ranks 3rd for the year behind "Captain America: Winter Solider" and "Godzilla".  Both of those films topped out at $95 million and "Transformers" looks to fall in that range as well, extinguishing industry hopes for (finally) a $100 million opening.

Elsewhere, "22 Jump Street" continues to enjoy strong midweeks so look for a drop in the 40's fueling a battle between themselves, Sony's other title in the marketplace, "Think Like A Man Too", and "How To Train Your Dragon 2".   Here's the projected Top 10 for the weekend...

PROJECTED TOP 10
1)   TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION---PARAMOUNT---$96 MILLION
2)   22 JUMP STREET---SONY---$15.3 MILLION---44% DROP

To be fair, Cap opened at 8pm and Godzilla at 7pm. TF4 opened at 9pm is 40 minutes longer than both of those.
