Frank Miller's "Sin City" Chronicles return after a nine year big screen absence to hopefully prove that R rated action movies work better than watered-down PG-13's do, Sony hopes "When The Game Stands Tall" recalls the glory of "Friday Night Lights" and "Remember The Titans" and Chloe Grace Moretz headlines "If I Stay" for Warners.

The most interesting indie release of the week is surely "Love Is Strange", a relationship drama with Alfred Molina and John Lithgow from "Married Life" director Ira Sachs. Also opening this week are VOD day-and-date releases "The One I Love" with Mark Duplass and "Are You Here" with Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis

Clint Set For Christmas Exclusive on 'American Sniper', Guy Ritchie Gets Moved Back 7 Months and 'Godzilla 2' Set for 2018

I consider it a successful week on the release schedule front if we only have two (yes just TWO!) release schedule additions that include the word "Untitled" in them. Fancy that. Warners will give Clint's "American Sniper" an Oscar go, "Power Rangers" return to the big screen and the big green lizard descends upon these shores again in 2018.

There's nothing like an opening in China to move a film back up the box office standings. Languishing "How To Train Your Dragon 2" got a Beijing Boost this weekend, pulling in almost $26 million from that country, allowing the film to take the #1 spot on the International Box Office charts. "Expendables 3" was far less lucky.

The sad death of comedian/actor Robin Williams has led to a resurgence in viewing of his classic film roles. "Dead Poets Society", "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Good Morning, Vietnam" all made the ITunes Top 10 Movie Chart, along with newcomers "Neighbors", "Muppets Most Wanted" and "Blended".

Fox still occupies the #1 spot at the studio market share race this week and with upcoming titles such as "Gone Girl", Penguins of Madagascar" and "Exodus" the group on Motor Drive will be tough to beat. Disney, currently sitting in the Place position, doesn't have another wide release until mid October, so Fox's lead seems safe for now.

It's always a big deal when The Met Opera announces its season lineup and Event Cinema fans are now chomping at the bit for the opera's season offerings. In addition, the British Museum announced two new exhibition events, "The Vikings" and "Pompeii"

Well it was nice while it lasted. Hollywood's return to glory days of the past three weeks came to a clunking halt this weekend as none of the three new openers could unseat returnees "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Guardians of the Galaxy"

Perhaps the 7pm late shows last night were past most of the stars', and therefore their fans', bedtimes but "Expendables 3" limped to a late show gross of only $875,000, barely topping Weinstein's "The Giver" and falling short of "Let's Be Cops" late shows of $1.2 million on Tuesday night.
