Longtime Christopher Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister takes his first shot in the director's chair and snares a pretty crazy movie and a darn impressive cast. Johnny Depp stars as an A.I. researcher who uploads his mind via transcendence, to endure and rule, even after his death. Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman and Kate Mara fill out the cast.
Both coasts figure to be big on the film but the question is whether the middle of the country will care about what's going on and is this the kind of Depp vehicle they want to see him in (then again, everyone would have answered "yes" a year ago if we had told them he was playing Tonto and you know how that turned out!). It's always a bit of a crap shoot attempting to predict Depp's films. He hasn't had a non-"Pirates" film open north of $30 million since 2010's "Alice in Wonderland" so I'm going to temper my prediction slightly. Still, 6.7 million YouTube views shows there's interest and the film will receive a boost from being in Imax. I just wish tracking was higher.
