That cacophony of crashes, screeches and high octane this-goes-to-11 decimation you hear can only mean two things...it's summer and it's Michael Bay. Yes, both are back with a vengeance this week as Optimus Prime and the rest of the Transformers return in "TF: Age Of Extinction"
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION---PARAMOUNT---WIDE---165 MINS---PG-13---IMAX, 3D, D-BOX
It's a shame that Shia LaBeouf decided he was going to retire from acting because the "Transformers" franchise is poised to roll along nicely without him. Mark Wahlberg takes over this time as an auto mechanic whose discovery results in all hell breaking loose, as only it can in a Bay film. Stanley Tucci, John Goodman, Kelsey Grammer, Ken Watanabe, Nicola Peltz and either Bingbing Li or Li Bingbing (I've seen it both ways) co-star along with everyone's favorite bucket of bolts, Optimus Prime.
2011's "Dark of the Moon" opened the same week in 2011 on a Wednesday to a five day take of $162 million, $97 million for three days. "Revenge of the Fallen" also opened on a Wednesday and its five day take was $200 million ($108 million for the three day weekend) the last week of June in '09. The original 2007 "Transformers" debuted to $70 million over 4th of July weekend. This will not open on a Wednesday so look for a higher opening weekend than any of the past three TF titles. The film is available in Imax, D-Box, 3D and exhibitor large format screens, ensuring a high average ticket price this weekend. With nothing else at the box office likely to top $20 million the sky's the limit this weekend for "Age of Extinction".
