Fox, Disney and Warners Still Lead Studio Market Share Race

Fox still occupies the #1 spot at the studio market share race this week and with upcoming titles such as "Gone Girl", Penguins of Madagascar" and "Exodus" the group on Motor Drive will be tough to beat. Disney, currently sitting in the Place position, doesn't have another wide release until mid October, so Fox's lead seems safe for now.

Fox's successful 2014 run at the box office just rolls on as they solidify their market share lead, thanks to a solid opening for "Let's Be Cops".  Disney, who is starting to cut into their lead, will have to ride the "Guardians" wave for now as the Mouse House doesn't have anything on the horizon until "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" in mid October and then the animated "Big Hero 6" in November.  Third place studio Warners is almost $200 million behind but definitely have the edge in the quantity-not-quality portion of the program.  The studio has no less than five titles between now and the end of October so they could potentially slip into second fairly quickly.  Sony, Universal and Paramount are further back.

2014 STUDIO MARKET SHARE RACE
1)   FOX----$1,200 MILLION
"Maze Runner", "Gone Girl", "Book of Life", "Penguins of Madagascar" and "Exodus" should enable the studio to keep its hold on first place

2)   BUENA VISTA---$1,132 MILLION
Studio lies dormant until October, then recharge with "Big Hero 6" before Christmas Day's "Into The Woods"

3)   WARNER BROTHERS---$1,034 MILLION
Ten wide titles before the end of 2014 should move WB into second place

4)   SONY---$925 MILLION
Five wide releases before the end of the year including "The Equalizer", "Fury" and "Annie".

universal

5)   UNIVERSAL---$786 MILLION
Another studio with five wide titles before the end of the year with  "Walk Among The Tombstones" and "Dumb and Dumber To" looking like its best bets.

6)   PARAMOUNT---$750 MILLION
"Ninja Turtles" have moved Paramount closer to the top five but they're not there yet and will slip back considering the studio's drought until "PN Activity 5" the week before Halloween and nothing else until Christmas week.

7)   LIONSGATE---$329 MILLION
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" is coming in November.  But it's probably not enough to unseat Paramount for 6th

8)   OPEN ROAD---$125 MILLION
"Nightcrawler" and "Rosewater" to come.

Relativity

9)   RELATIVITY---$117 MILLION
Four wide releases, including "November Man" and "The Best of Me" might move Kavanaugh & Co up to 8th

10) WEINSTEIN COMPANY---$102 MILLION
It all depends on how strong "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" is.  A possibility for 9th or even 8th.
