Coming as a complete surprise to absolutely no one, the IMAX houses on "Amazing Spider-Man 2" were enormous as the format accounted for 9.9% of the total domestic gross this weekend by tallying $9.1 million on these shores. The company enjoyed a hefty per screen average of $25,500 from their 353 US & Canada locations. And the news from overseas is equally as impressive as the film, which has had staggered release dates so far, has now done roughly $24 million internationally, including last night's $1.3 million from China alone. IMAX CEO Greg Foster added "with China, the global IMAX screen count for ASM2 will hit 703, making this the widest day and date release in the company's 47 year history"
Exhibitor owned PLF Large Format screens proved a success on the film as well, with a take of approximately $6 million, but still well below Imax's PSA.
Next up for big screen format houses is "Godzilla" on May 16th.
