Bond

Unless you've been living in Mongolia (where I hear they're putting in an Imax theatre, actually!) you know everyone at Box Office Insider (all one of us) are Bond fanatics.  The next 007 film comes out next November 6th and it's really not too early to begin the speculation game.  There was word two weeks ago that "12 Years a Slave" star Chiwetel Ejiofor is in negotiations to play the next villain.  So let's take a look at ten artists who I think may follow in the footsteps of Shirley Bassey, Adele and Sheena Easton (ok, scratch that last one) and belt out the next Bond title song (in no particular order)

SAM SMITH--Spring boarding up the music charts, the 21 year old British singer just performed on SNL and would prove to be a perfect bookend piece to the last Bond vocalist, Adele.  (See "Stay With Me")

DAVID BOWIE--THE MAN returned to the music scene last year, still sounding awesome. C'mon admit it, you'd love to hear this, wouldn't you?  (See, well any of his songs).

BLACK KEYS--As solid a band as there is anywhere, always reliable.   (See "Lonely Boy", etc)

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE--This would be an easy pick but they did provide music for "Eat, Pray, Love" and the Bond brain trust tends to shy away from anyone who has already done music or theme songs for other films.  But who knows.  (See: "Shake It Off")

ELLIE GOULDING--She will probably be one of those rumored to be performing the theme to Bond 24 right up until announcement time.  And for good reason (See: "I Know You Care", "Burn")

BIRDY--The 18 year old Brit sensation has a unmistakable voice and could be a dead solid choice for this (See: "Skinny Love")

ST. VINCENT--Ok this is my #1 pick.  Do yourself a favor, find "Prince Johnny" on ITunes, download it (send the ITunes bill to me if you must), listen to it and tell me she wouldn't be spot on brilliant! (See: "Prince Johnny")

JESSIE WARE--Ware's husky voice shines mostly in her R&B numbers, but listen to "Wildest Moments" and see why she's included in this list (See: "Wildest Moments")

CHVRCHES--I know it's a long shot but I had to add my favorite new band.  They haven't picked a Scot to perform a Bond theme since the aforementioned Ms. Easton, and if the Bond folks want to go north of the border then this trio wins out handily over The Proclaimers, Average White Band or the guy from the Scott's Lawn commercials.  (See: "The Mother We Share")

ARCTIC MONKEYS--Long shot #2 but the Monkeys thrive on hard, heavy bass rifts which might be a lot of fun with those always amazing Bond opening titles.  (See: "Do I Wanna Know")

PAUL BUCHANAN--And here's an eleventh, just for good measure, and by far the longest shot on the board.  The lead singer of the Scottish trio The Blue Nile, Buchanan recently released a preposterously good solo album and has one of the most compelling voices in recent music memory  (See: "Mid-Air")
