My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Citizens, attempt to remain calm and please put down the baklava and sheftalia, Playtone announced that there WILL be a sequel to 2002's surprise hit, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and will again star Nia Vardalos.  All this and more in this week's Mindless Wanderings column.

*** It was announced that Nia Vardalos, Playtone and Rita Wilson will produce a sequel to 2002's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".  Vardalos will again team up with co-star John Corbett and lots of guys named Nick.  Look for the film late in 2015.  Yasou!

*** The Weinstein Company has assembled a sensational cast for "Woman in Gold", starring Helen Mirren, Elizabeth McGovern, "Orphan Black" star Tatiana Maslany and Ryan Reynolds.  The film is best described as "Monuments Women", with Mirren starring as a Jewish refugee who attempts to take back Gustav Klimt paintings that had been stolen from her family in World War II.

*** Lionsgate has acquired the Space Race thriller, "Operation Avalanche", from director Matt Johnson, whose previous effort, "The Dirties", has been a festival favorite.

*** Rob Cohen, the director behind "XXX" and "The Fast And The Furious" is set to helm the 3D fantasy/action film "Marco Polo", to be produced by Paramount and China Film Corporation.

*** James Cameron and Cirque Du Soleil will team up for a live arena tour inspired by his "Avatar" film in late 2015.  The director is currently working on follow-ups to the 2009 mega-hit.

*** Sony is becoming further invested in the Kevin James business.  In addition to upcoming titles "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and "Pixels", the company announced that James will star in the "Swiss Family Robinson"-like family comedy, "Stranded".  No word on who will play The Professor or Mary Ann.

*** Universal announced that Domestic Marketing Head Josh Goldstine will also now oversee Worldwide Marketing for the company.  Congratulations to a guy that I had the pleasure of working with during my time at Sony.

*** Warners announced that Roland Emmerich will direct a trilogy based on the "Stargate" series, starting in 2016.

*** I know this isn't film related news but "Brady Bunch" maid Ann B. Davis passed away over the weekend at the age of 88.
