In this week's Mindless Wanderings those meddling kids are back, the Martin Luther King Jr drama "Selma" lands a Christmas release date, "The Homesman" finds a ummm home and much more...

*** Jinkies, Warner Brothers announced they are working on a new live action Scooby-Doo reboot for 2016.  I'm guessing none of the cast from the 2002 & 2004 movies will return as Matthew Lillard will be 46 years old by that time.  Like, that's almost a senior citizen, Scoob!.  Rats Right, Raggy!

*** Cannes' pic "The Homesman", the western directed by Tommy Lee Jones has found a home with Saban Films and Roadside Attractions, who are partnering up for a U.S. release on November 7th.  The film also stars Hilary Swank, Hailee Steinfeld, James Spader and Meryl Streep.

*** Paramount will get "Selma", the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's march to Montgomery, Alabama for equal voting rights, out into the marketplace just in time for awards season.  The drama, produced by Harpo and Plan B stars David Oyelowo  ("Jack Reacher"), Tom Wilkinson, Andre Holland, Dylan Baker, Jeremy Strong and Oprah Winfrey.

*** London's Pinewood Studios has been locked in a lengthy battle over expansion but that era has seemingly come to a close as it was announced last week that the studio, which applied for permission to expand back in 2011, has been granted approval to expand by over 100,000 square meters.  The studio has been the base for the James Bond films and is the current home of filming on "Star Wars: Episode VII".

*** Derek McLay, longtime conduit between the studios and his company, Nielsen/NRG, was let go by the company early last week.  Derek is one of the most intelligent, approachable executives in the industry and we wish him well and hopes he lands soon.

*** "Looper" director Rian Johnson has been selected to write and direct Episodes VIII and IX of the next round of "Star Wars" films.  J.J. Abrams is directing next year's "Episode VII".

*** Open Road has picked up the U.S. rights to the Mark Burnett and Roma Downey produced inspirational tale, "Little Boy".  The pair that brought you "Son Of God" bring to the screen the story of an indelible bond between a son and his father.  The film's impressive cast includes Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Michael Rapaport, Kevin James, Ben Chaplin and David Hendrie.

*** You knew this would happen, didn't you?   Lionsgate has announced an English-language remake of the "Instructions Not Included", the Spanish-language film that grossed an astonishing $44 million last year.  Keith Merryman and David A. Newman, fresh off their success with "Think Like A Man Too" this past weekend, will handle the screenplay.
