With everyone prepping for Cannes or holding their breath that their favorite TV show was going to be canceled it was a blink-and-you-missed-it sort of a week.  So if you did indeed blink, here's a recap of the week's doings in our Mindless Wanderings column.

** Despite the Bryan Singer abuse allegations, Fox has left the "A Film By Brian Singer" notation on their 30 second TV spots for "X-Men: Days of Future Past"

** Open Road is nearing a deal to distribute "The Daily Show"'s Jon Stewart's directorial debut, "Rosewater", starring Gael Garcia Bernal as a BBC journalist who is sent to cover the 2009 Iranian elections.

** One of the most underrated actresses in film today, Julia Stiles, has signed onto "The Great Gilly Hopkins".  Sophie Nelisse, who was such a revelation in 2013's "The Book Thief" plays Gilly, who dreams of one day reuniting with her mother (Stiles).  The film also stars Glenn Close and Kathy Bates.

** Following a career path last laid out by the great Michael Jordan, LeBron James turns to the big screen in Judd Apatow's comedy "Trainwreck".  The Universal laugher stars Amy Schumer, along with Bill Hader, John Cena(?) and Tilda Swinton (???)

** For the first time in ages, Sean Penn has signed on for an action role in Open Road's "The Gunman".  Directed by Pierre Morel, the film also stars Javier Bardem and Idris Elba.  Penn plays a PTSD affected ex-special forces solider forced to clear his name.

Dalton Trumbo

** Canadian distributor eOne landed international rights to "Trumbo", the biopic of (no, not Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo) blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.  Bryan Cranston steps into the lead role along with co-star Helen Mirren as crumbum gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, who outed Trumbo for his refusal to testify to the HUAC committee as one of the legendary Hollywood Ten in the 1950's.  Jay Roach directs.

** Focus, Insomniac and Tugg are combining to bring Electronic Dance Music (EDM) documentary, "Under The Electric Sky", to screens this June.  The film looks at six groups of attendees at the biggest EDM Festival in the world, the Electric Daisy Festival in Las Vegas.

** "The Office" star John Krasinski will star in and direct "The Hollars".  Krasinski plays a New Yorker who returns to his childhood home for his mother's brain surgery.  Anna Kendrick, Margo Martindale and Richard Jenkins co-star.

** Gerard Butler has pulled out of Warners' "Point Break" remake.  Perhaps its scheduling difficulties caused by the fact that Butler has 146 films lined up between now and 2016.

** Speaking of Warners and remakes, they have lined up Rebel Wilson ("Bridesmaids") for their "Private Benjamin" redo.

flintstones

** Speaking of Warners and remakes (hmmm, deja vu?), the company has announced there will be a new animated "Flintstones" movie.  To quote Bobby Di Cicco's famous line in the 1982 comedy classic, "Night Shift"...."that Barney Rubble, what an actor!"

** The Broadway stage version of "Driving Miss Daisy", with Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones,  will be shown in theatres by Screenvision on June 4th,
