Thanks to rental availabilities, both Kevin Costner's "Draft Day" and the Sandler/Barrymore comedy, "Blended", made return engagements at the top of the ITunes VOD/EST chart this week. The best newcomer was "Godzilla", which was available on EST only

Draft Day

Let's get one thing out of the way, which should clear up any recent confusion over these ITunes Top 15 charts I have started to implant in the weekly BOI.  When a film lands on ITunes it has two separate and distinct lives.  The first is EST, or Electronic Sell-Through, which means the film is available on ITunes for purchase only.  The main share of ITunes film revenue is generated by the second life however, which is VOD rental.  So when a film becomes available on the format for purchase you'll often find it languishing at the bottom of the top 15, despite it being a success at the box office.  However, when it becomes available for rent, that's when it takes off and juggernauts up the chart, and that's what we have again this week.

Kevin Costner's "Draft Day", not exactly a barn-burner in theatres, has risen from #8 last week all the way to the top spot and the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore family comedy, "Blended" is enjoying the same success, now that it is rent-able.  That film was at #13 last week but has moved into the #2 spot this week.

Elsewhere, "Godzilla" (EST only) debuts at #3, "Labor Day", the January release starring Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet, vaulted to #5, singly due to it being the week's 99 cent rental (99c for "Labor Day" on Labor Day, get it?).  Also, "The Fault In Our Stars" has not one, but two, different versions in the top 15.  One regular cut, as well as an additional extended cut, which features commentary from the book's author, John Green.  In addition, "Life of Crime", this week's day-and-date release from Roadside Attractions, starring Bill Hader and Jennifer Aniston, finished 8th on the list.

Next week on the ITunes landscape is "Mom's Night Out", while the following week is an embarrassment of riches with "Edge of Tomorrow" (which is titled, "Live, Die, Repeat" on the DVD version), "A Million Ways To Die In The West", "Think Like A Man Too" and "Words and Pictures" all available for the first time on ITunes.
